The British tennis star achieved the most notable victory of his professional journey by rallying from a lost first set to defeat world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz with a stunning comeback in the early stage of the Paris Masters.

While he had before beaten Alcaraz on two prior meetings, this victory marks Norrie's first ever success over a sitting world No 1.

"Enormous. So big for me," said Norrie, who is now the latest British man in the record books to defeat a global number one. "Bouncing back from health issues last year, I fell in the first round of qualifiers here. I just aimed to embrace my game in the second half of the year. To get a triumph like this, it's the most significant win of my career, my initial victory over the global number one and likely the most in-form athlete in the sport right now."

Norrie, positioned 31st in the world, also halted Alcaraz's impressive streak of nine consecutive finals and 17 straight elite tournament wins, which marked the top run of outcomes in the Spaniard's developing career.

The top seed appeared to be progressing easily to a win early on as he sailed through the opening set. Yet, Norrie gradually battled back back into the game by serving with sharper placement and dragging the Spaniard into prolonged, demanding rallies.
