Information Available Concerning the Victims of the Bondi Beach Terror Attack
At least 16 lives were killed and more than 40 were wounded when attackers shot at a Hanukkah gathering at Bondi Beach, an incident Australian police have labeled a terrorist attack.
In the latest update, authorities have confirmed the death toll remains at 16, which includes one of the suspected gunmen. Furthermore, 42 wounded individuals were admitted to medical facilities.
The victims are still awaiting formally identified, but authorities state their ages are between 10 and 87 years old.

Eli Schlanger
Originally from London clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.
Known as a father-of-five, he served as the assistant rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Family members and acquaintances remembered him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a family member remarked.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the arrival of their newest son just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, according to his wife.
She recounted the events leading up to the shooting, saying they were standing when the gunfire began. “He pushed his body up because he wished to be near me,” she said.
The husband and wife were both Holocaust survivors, having experienced unspeakable terror in their youth. They had later immigrated to Australia from Eastern Europe.
Dan Elkayam
French foreign ministry have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is a casualty.
Officially, a senior official expressed that France stood with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This despicable act is a new, tragic manifestation of a revolting outpouring of antisemitic hatred that we must combat,” the statement continued.
One Child
A young girl, aged 10 who was rushed to the a children's hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, police have confirmed.
One Israeli Citizen
An Israeli citizen was also killed during the attack, as per reports referencing the Israeli government.
Those Injured
From the 42 people transported to hospitals, many are still receiving treatment, with several in critical condition. The injured include two police officers who responded to the attack.
A casualty is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to confront one of the gunmen. Called a local hero, he sustained gunshot wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. It has been reported he was injured and is receiving treatment in hospital.
Communicating, he recounted the incident as an “horrific scene,” but also praised the actions of those who came to assist. He said he believed it was a “stroke of luck” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the shooting. He described he listened to “dozens and dozens” of shots.
“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he explained. “I sustained a gunshot wound. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
