Nigel Farage Claims Educators of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that teachers would go on strike within weeks a Reform UK election victory, charging that they are “harming young minds” by telling students that black pupils are victims and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, the politician expressed his viewpoint on British schools, stating that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike soon after securing a victory,” Farage commented during a Q&A session.
“They are poisoning our kids. They instruct children to feel guilt about their nation. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is a perpetrator. They create division, not uniting us. They are feeding this negative culture.”
Reacting to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union dismissed the idea that the schools were under Marxist influence as “nonsense”. Kebede noted that any strikes must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and doubted whether Reform would attack these immediately upon entering government.
“The politician has crafted his public life on coded rhetoric and currently, like Trump, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a fight,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – push critical race theory as he’s suggesting … Should he become prime minister he would undermine state services, particularly schooling … and he would be a disaster for education and children.”
Reform, which tops surveys by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on a proposed education policy and seems not to have designated an education lead.
However, his comments indicated the group would reform the educational framework. Farage declared: “We face an enormous task with education – absolutely herculean. Moreover, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”
Farage expressed that younger generations are receptive to critical thinking, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Honoring Charlie Kirk, Farage said: “All I want education to do to foster independent thought – to educate individuals that multiple perspectives exist and you make up your own mind as opposed to current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. This is a huge undertaking in the UK and US.”
Reform has previously clashed with a major educators’ organization, after the union leader labeled them “far right and racist” and described the leader as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
The politician has charged Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted through education, their thinking tainted about everything to do with this country” and has argued that the organization seeks to brainwash youth opposed to his party.
Almost one million people are employed in education in the UK, with educators comprising half and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The major education union has hundreds of thousands of members.
Countrywide walkouts over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 caused widespread disruption in schools and extensive missed instruction for students.
At the US event, Farage also pledged to help spread the digital courses of the Christian college in the UK. He stated organizations like it were “key to resistance”, noting: “I am serious. I’ll assist garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of youth to your online courses. I pledge this now and I will follow through.”
The institution, a small private Christian college, offers free courses. Its website states: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is necessary for personal happiness and to maintain the benefits of civil and religious liberty. It offers these beautiful courses for free to every interested learner.”
